El seu bon empla\u00e7ament, al costat de la desapareguda Laguna, li facilitava unes condicions molt favorables per obtenir aigua, sal, pastures, pesca i ca\u00e7a. S'hi duen a terme excavacions arqueol\u00f2giques des de mitjans del segle XX, primer per Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Soler i posteriorment per un equip de la Universitat d'Alacant encap\u00e7alat pel professor Mauro S. Hern\u00e1ndez P\u00e9rez.
